Sammi Ma
Program Manager
Sammi started this newly created position in March 2024 and is committed to advocating for UCSF postdocs through the lens of equity. Her areas of expertise include strategic partnerships, community engagement, program development, project management, and policy advocacy. Prior to her current role, she was responsible for driving corporate social responsibility initiatives at a cannabis multi-state operator and helped deliver its first social impact report. At the City of San Diego, Sammi served as a Senior Development Project Manager, where she developed the City’s cannabis program and managed various land use entitlements. She also worked as an investigator, solving complex environmental and zoning violations. In Chicago, Sammi was appointed by the Illinois Governor and confirmed by the Illinois Senate to serve as the Superintendent of Safety Inspection and Education at the Department of Labor. Sammi conducted proactive Asian American community outreach, OSHA inspections, as well as labor and human trafficking investigations with the Attorney General's office.
Sammi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Illinois Chicago. She is a proud Hong Kong immigrant who enjoys biking, backpacking, music, fashion, and art. She also paddles for the San Francisco Dragon Warriors.
